BOB ABBOTT
UPRIGHT & ELECTRIC BASS

Bob Abbott graduated with honors form Salisbury State University where he studied music.  While his primary instrument was piano, he also studied a variety of other instruments including voice, string and electric bass.  Since moving to the Baltimore / Washington area in 2000 he has been an anchor of musical groups including the Music Pilgrim Trip, Bay Jazz Project, The Alexandria Kleztet, and the Susan Jones Quartet.  His performance experiences range from local community festivals to performing at national political and social events and international festival.  Bob is a freelance bass player, composer, and arranger in the Baltimore / Washington Area. 

He plays in various ensemble at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Mansion at Strathmore, Blues Alley, First Night Alexandra, First Night Annapolis, Rehoboth Jazz Fest, the National Gallery of Art, Rams Head on Stage, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Fredrick Festival for the Arts, Artscape in Baltimore, venues all along Mid Atlantic region, as well as several embassies and political functions in the Baltimore / Washington D.C. area.  In 2011 he had the honor of traveling and performing in Croatia and was a guest musician and judge at the Zagreb Guitar Show and 2014 as a clinician and featured artist at the 2nd Annual River Jazz Festival in Croatia.  Bob has had the privilege to perform with vocalist/ historian, the late Ruby Glover, the late tenor sax legend Buck Hill, clinician and alto great Ron Kearns, and has recorded with NYC session player Jim Snidero.  Bob is and an endorsed artist for JanAid Basses, GuitarStrap.IT, Acme Bass Speakers, Guardian Pro Cables, and Nitewalker Bass Guitar Preamp.

Bob’s talents shine not just on the stage but also in the recording studio, recording with several bands and ensembles including Michael and teh Little Professors - Time to Sing, Bay Jazz Project, The Folk Heroes - Road to History, Kindred Spirits - It’s About Time, The Goodnews Sound, Susan Jones - Violin Caliente, and Exit 19, Susan Jones and Seth Kibel - Nuts and Bolts, Seth Kibel and Bay Jazz Project - Phonin’ It In, Sean Lane - Crying Sky Blue, Sean Lane and the Bay Jazz Project - Runnin’ to Riverside, Seth Kibel - No Words, Music Pilgrim Trio  - Spanning the Globe and Savor the Journey, Vladimir Fridman - Let’s Go Classic, and independent film sound track recording for LA composer Tim Starnes.

In Addition to Bob’s career in performance he is a High School Guitar, Piano and Music Technology instructor for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.  He has been a Guest Judge for Choral and Jazz events and has been a Guest Conductor and Clinician for music events in Maryland.
